What is the American Humanics Management Institute?
This is an annual event attended by all American Humanics students and employers from across the United States . It is a great opportunity to gain practical expertise, network, hear nationally recognized speakers, to attend career and campus fair exhibits, and to participate in workshops and case study simulations.

EMU's AH students had this to say about their
time in Kansas City:
AHMI 2008 was an amazing experience. It was the kind of experience I have wanted for a long time. I not only grew closer to my fellow American Humanics members and advisors from Eastern but getting to meet and know so many others all at once is so uplifting. We know there are many people out there just like us that want to do these amazing things for our communities and for our world but it can be all too easy to forget that they are really still out there. The AHMI conference instills much stronger faith that we DO have a strong network of people to turn to and grow with all over the country, and in the world.
The field that I personally want to go into is much less common than most people I meet in the non-profit world. AHMI 2008 definitely helped me grow my passion to apply it to broader and more realistic ideas. Most importantly, it helped me extend my network. I can never forget one single elevator ride from that weekend. There was a man from Boston wearing a T-Shirt that said "Concerts for Charity" and I immediately introduced myself. My goals couldn't be summed up better in 3 little words, and he was wearing them. I ended up making a very valuable connection in a 30 second ride that is still opening doors 4 months later, in my own mind as well as the real world.
The speakers were also far more inspiring and memorable than I could capture in a one-page report. The workshops were refreshingly informational and reassuring, and the one thing I expected to boring and useless was the most surprising of all. There was a case study that I was not looking forward to at all and it ended up being probably the most useful single part of the conference. It was a learning experience that can be applied to any organization that I will ever work for (or create). Overall the conference was AMAZING and far exceeded any of our expectations. I not only recommend it for future AH students but students from all backgrounds and interests. I hope to attend many future AHMI conferences.

I was introduced to American Humanics the
first time in December 2007 when I met with Dr. Petrescu. She
informed me that while I was earning my minor in Non-Profit Administration
that I also had the opportunity to earn an American Humanics Certificate.
It had turned out 2 weeks from that date AH was going to be attending
the Management Institute in Kansas City. I signed up that day.
When I arrived in Kansas City I was felt as though my world had
just been expanded. I attended to many types of workshops. It
was amazing to learn that there was a whole other world within
the business world. I was able to have the opportunity to network
with people in the non-profit sector as well as make connections
with others that also attended the AHMI.
I had the opportunity to learn about the new wave of going “green”
during the Case Study with the National Collegiate Dialogue: Energy
Policy for Communities. It was absolutely amazing. It allowed
me to open my eyes and become more aware of my community and my
lifestyle.
Attending a multitude of workshops I was better able to understand
the meaning of philanthropy and meet Mrs. Taylor. I learned how
to write and research different grants. Ways to connect into the
non-profit sector. I also learned about AmeriCorps. Before AHMI
I had never heard of AmeriCorps.
Overall, my experience in Kansas City was an amazing introduction
to the non-profit sector. It allowed me to better understand the
meaning and importance to become active within my local AH at
Eastern Michigan University. It has allowed me a stepping stone
for a way to be introduced and the feeling of knowledge to continue
towards the non profit sector.
Thank You for this amazing opportunity of a life time.
